Some sections of this part of Mahoning County are actually losing population while the number of residents in other sections of this area is increasing. Overall, the nature of the area is shifting from being a rural, agricultural area to characteristics more typical of suburban areas. Over time, the density of population in proximity to the commercial center of New Middletown is expected to increase. The consultants believe that library use in the New Middletown/New Springfield area would increase substantially if a larger library with longer hours and more resources were provided.
